Hi, I'm Rebecca Rivera. Welcome to my profile!

Rebecca Rivera's Experience:
-
Freelance Copywriter, CD | CEO of Speed Mentoring at R Squared Words and Ideas | Speed Mentoring
2012 - Present | Greater NYC areaI'm a creative problem solver. What that means: When I see people who want to meet industry leaders so they can exchange ideas, get career advice and hack business problems, I create Speed Mentoring. When I meet a client with a great story worth telling but no idea how to get it out there, I come up with the strategy, the team and the creative. When I meet people who desperately need creative leadership training, I develop CD Bootcamp. When I see an organization that can help marketers and agencies more effectively reach the largest consumer group on the planet -- women -- I help that organization triple in size and impact in just 3 years. My method is simple: I help people connect with each other to improve their lives and help brands find and connect with their customers -- by seeing the world in terms of stories and the way people actually experience them.
-
Associate Creative Director/Copywriter at Digitas
March 2011 - March 2012At Digitas, I worked on two of America's most beloved P&G brands: Tide & Downy. As an ACD, I led creative teams and collaborated with partner agencies in the pursuit of laundry nirvana. I also got my hands dirty, writing everything from Downy's digital & social Olympic program, to an online scavenger hunt, to a new product introduction, to iMedia, to mobile experiences, to always on Facebook posts.
-
ACD/Copywriter at Digital Influence Group
September 2008 - February 2011At DIG, I helped develop digital marketing programs with social at their core and helped pitch and win clients like Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. I wrote and creative directed community sites, social profiles, branded videos, Facebook apps, blogs, and infographics - for HPHC, T-Mobile, HBO, IBM, and Genzyme.
-
Associate Creative Director at PJA Advertising + Marketing
July 2006 - September 2008As an ACD at this health sciences and tech focused ad agency, I juggled interactive, broadcast and print assignments on accounts like Invitrogen, Ore, Boston Scientific, Novell, TriZetto, Luminus, and TAC.
-
Freelance Copywriter/Creative Director at Sole Proprietorship
March 2006 - July 2006I freelanced for agencies large and small while hunting for a new staff gig on the East Coast.
-
Senior Copywriter at DDB LA
April 2004 - March 2006A former CD lured me back into traditional advertising by giving me a chance to write TV commercials, print, and direct marketing -- primarily for Ameriquest. I was also able to do some spec Bud Light work. I won an armload of awards, including a One Show gold pencil for a Superbowl spot.
-
Freelance Copywriter/CD at r-squared
November 2000 - April 2004After the dot bomb fell, there was still plenty of work for freelancers. I worked as a hired gun up and down the west coast for a variety of ad agencies and dot com clients on a myriad of creative assignments. See my portfolio at http://rebrivved.carbonmade.com for details.
-
Creative Director at Egreetings.com
May 1999 - October 2000I rode the dotcom/dotbomb roller coaster at this web-based greeting card company changed business plans almost as often as people change their socks. Thank god I was smart enough to ask for a real salary instead of stock options. My team was responsible for creating the website that pushed out fresh content as well as our own advertising and marketing materials. For the record, the company sold (for about a nickel) to American Greetings.
-
Freelance Copywriter/CD at r-squared
October 1997 - April 1999I freelanced my butt off during the dot com run-up and had so many juicy assignments I was able to pay for pilot training. You can see some of the work I did at http://rebrivved.carbonmade.com.
-
Associate Creative Director, Interactive at Riney
March 1996 - September 1997Like most brand agencies at that time, Riney was getting left behind in the dotcom gold rush. So they hired me to build an interactive team. I was just learning about this newfangled thing called the Internet myself. But what I knew was more than enough to creative direct and write websites (and online marketing initiatives) for Sprint, Peet's Coffee & Tea, the first electric car (GMEV1), and Saturn.
-
Senior Copywriter at Anderson & Lembke
1995 - 1996I was thrilled to help launch MSN and the first Explorer browser. But when A&L was bought by McCann, the agency temporarily lost some pieces of Microsoft business, I was laid off. Bummer.
-
Senior Copywriter at Team One Advertising
January 1993 - October 1995How lucky was I to work on Lexus collateral, DM and print; Yonex Tennis collateral and video projects; identity, print, collateral, and outdoor for Heal the Bay? My work made regular appearances in Communication Arts and other award pubs. And then I won a gold Clio for an Earth Communications Office PSA. So why did I leave? The siren of the Internet called me to San Francisco.
-
Senior Copywriter at RPA
1985 - 1992I learned from the best, Larry Postaer, at my very first writing job on one of the most awarded accounts ever: Honda.
-
Digital & Social Strategist at The 3% Conference
January 2011The 3% Conference is an event and community whose sole purpose is to showcase the business value of female CDs. At the conference and throughout the year, 3% brainstorms ways to increase female creative leadership and celebrate women's creative contributions. For 2013, in addition to taking the digital & social strategy lead, I'm helping organize a first of its kind speed mentoring event. In my copious free time I'm also helping Kat shape the agenda and identify speakers for this year's conference which will take place in San Francisco on October 16-17th.
